Realizing Our Promise: The Second JHU Roadmap on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Kick-off Event

On Friday, March 11, 2022, Johns Hopkins University held a kick-off event for Realizing Our Promise: The Second JHU Roadmap on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The event included a morning program wherein university leadership shared their commitment to advancing the Roadmap over the next five years and a keynote by Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The morning session concluded with a Roadmap plan reveal, an overview of investments and timeline for the plan, and a celebratory video.

The afternoon session featured leaders in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Summer Lopez, Senior Director Free Expression Programs, Pen America discussing pluralism on campus; Dr. Scott E. Page,  John Seely Brown Distinguished University Professor of Complexity, Social Science, and Management at the University of Michigan, and the Williamson family Professor of Business Administration, professor of management and organizations, Stephen M. Ross School of Business; professor of political science, professor of complex systems, and professor of economics, LSA shared his basis for making the case for diversity; Dr. KerryAnn O’Meara provided insight into the intersection of design thinking and DEI, and Dr. Adler Archer explored the convergence of systems thinking and DEI.

The afternoon session also included a short breakout opportunity for participants to learn more about specific topics in DEI at JHU and concluded with a short celebration.
