“Transcending the Voices”, A poem about overcoming fear and embracing my child’s authenticity
“It’s just a fad,” offers a parenting peer.
They don’t want to accept that my child is queer.
“He will outgrow it,” they chorus in song,
As if my child’s authenticity is somehow wrong.
“Guide him this way,” they implore I comply,
“Normalcy beckons, don’t let him defy.”
Their advice, a reflection of shadows within,
A fear that if he transitions, he won’t fit in.
